Skimming
Plaster skimming to plasterboards is a popular method of providing a smooth, seamless surface ready to receive decorative treatment. Skim plastering gives many of the advantages of a traditional plaster finish combined with quick turnaround on site. Surface preparation simply involves joint reinforcement and, if tapered edge board is used, flushing-out the tapers. The plaster is trowel-applied to the wall or ceiling surface to a 2mm thickness.

Two coat plastering
The combination of an undercoat plaster with finish plaster is commonly used in both new work and refurbishment. Two coat work has many advantages over render/plaster and skimming.
Two coat dries faster than the traditional render and finish plaster meaning a faster completion, it also shrinks less, reducing the risk of cracking. A wide range of performance undercoat plasters can be used depending on the background to be plastered and the requirements of the finish. Different types of undercoat can be used to; bond to low suction backgrounds, bond to damp treated walls and to set the finish plaster harder to give a greater impact resistance.
